The active weather in the East drives the short-term, with a few showers around tonight, but the bigger story for the longer range is what’s happening out West. Cooler air dropping south there will eventually rebound, helping to build a strong ridge of high pressure from the western U.S. into Canada. In response, a trough settles in over the East into much of early May, keeping temperatures on the cooler side. The upside is that systems should keep moving, so while we’ll see occasional showers, this pattern does not favor long stretches of steady rain.
