Premium Weather Update July 1, 2026

Extreme Heat Warnings have been expanded across much of the Northeast as a large ridge of high pressure establishes and sustains an unusually intense heat wave through the balance of the week. Combined with moderate humidity, temperatures well into the 90s will create dangerous conditions, with heat exhaustion and heat stroke becoming a concern for anyone spending extended periods outdoors, especially in direct sunlight. Some instability lingers today as the warm front continues lifting northward, leaving the risk for a few isolated showers and thunderstorms. Any storms that develop could produce torrential rainfall despite their limited coverage.
The heat wave breaks this weekend as a cold front sweeps through the region, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms before temperatures return to more seasonable levels.
