Premium Weather Update July 15, 2026
After yesterday’s record-setting heat and humidity, the weather story shifts from heat to air quality as smoke from Canadian wildfires spreads across the Northeast. The same backdoor cold front bringing slightly cooler, less humid air has turned our winds to the north, allowing the thickest part of the smoke plume to settle across much of the region. Skies will remain hazy over the next few days, and air quality may reach unhealthy levels at times. Sensitive groups should remain indoors when possible, and even healthy individuals should limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity until conditions improve. While some haze will likely linger into the weekend, air quality should gradually improve over the next few days.
A few isolated showers and thunderstorms may accompany the front today, though limited moisture should keep coverage sparse. The next better chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms arrives over the weekend as another cold front approaches, ushering in a cooler weather pattern for the start of next week.
